Creative work that leads to real expression, and joy.
Susan, the laughing one
For more than 30 years I've been making things with people: art, music, food, radio. The forms change. The point doesn't. I want you to leave feeling more like yourself than when you walked in.
An hour of paint, glue, color, and play for your littlest artists, with Miss Susan leading the way. They explore new materials, make something all their own, and head home proud (and maybe a little messy). No experience needed and no pressure, just play.
Tuesdays, 10–11 a.m. · Ages 2–4 · $10 · Fischman Gallery classroom, Johnson City
I come to you. Book a private session for your book club, church group, girls’ night, team outing, or classroom. You bring the people. I bring the materials, the music, and probably something to eat.
Art sessions for small groups and parties
Programs for schools, senior living, libraries, and after-school groups
Tell me a little about your people and what you’re dreaming up. I’ll write back within a few days.
hello, friend
My name, Lachmann, means “one who laughs.” That’s where Laughing One Studios comes from, and the “ones” are plural because I work in a lot of directions at once.
I started as a public-school music teacher. I taught Creative Development in Young Children at ETSU for ten years, spent twelve years in behavioral health doing weekly work with elementary kids, and have brought arts residencies to places like the Kennedy Center and WQED Pittsburgh. I walked into a radio studio with no training and have been there ever since. I cook on TV once a month. I live in a bohemian house in Jonesborough with a cat named Augusto Fortissimo.
It all comes back to the same thing: creative processes that lead to authentic expression, and joy.

Notes left on the wall
“Susan is so kind, fun, and engaging! My 3-year-old absolutely adores her. She is so patient and fosters my child’s creativity, while providing gentle instruction and guidance.”
— Amanda & Lilly
“Fearless creativity at full volume. There’s a sense of play, trust, and fearless exploration that makes the process just as powerful as the final result.”
— Jai
“She came to my classroom for a whole week. My students wrote a song in their own language, sewed their own books, learned to knit, and made a mural that covered the wall. Every day was amazing.”
— Frannie
